Jack Tomkins Arden – After fighting a lengthy illness, Jack Tomkins, 79, passed on to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 9, 2010 at the Elizabeth House. Jack will be remembered by the many people he touched with his love, optimism, generosity and quick wit. He was retired from the Broward County FL School Board Maintenance Division and was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Margaret Wylie Tomkins; one daughter, Jeannie Marie Herrmann and her husband, Norman, of Etowah; two sons, Scott Tomkins of Arden and David Tomkins and his wife, Yvette, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; one sister, Peggy Gutzweiler of Jacksonville, FL; three brothers, Jim Tomkins of Grand Island, NY, Earl Tomkins of Sarasota, FL and Thomas Hesmond of Avon, OH as well as four grandchildren, Jennifer and Jason Herrmann, both of Hendersonville and Alexander and Christopher Jack Tomkins, both of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 14, 2010 at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian. The family will receive friends Friday at the funeral home from 1:00 -2:00 PM prior to the service. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made in Jack’s memory to Four Seasons Compassion for Life, 571 South Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731 or to a charity of one’ s choice.

    I am sorry to hear of the loss of your father and husband, but as we all realize he is in a more peaceful resting place.
