Ray John McMahan, 82, of 25 Punkin Street, Leicester, died Sunday, August 15, 1999.

Mr. McMahan was born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late Archie and Nola Sharp McMahan. He was married to the late Carrie Ann Wells McMahan. He served with the US Army First Cavalry during WW II and he was a member of the Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team.
He worked as a painter.

He is survived by a sister, Idella Daves of Leicester; nieces and nephews, Betty Daves, Billy and Charles McMahan, Caroline Frisbee, Ruth Ann Brown, Betty Gillespie,
Joyce Vaughn, and Jarvis Ball; and a great-niece and nephew, Kim and Terrie McMahan.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Wednesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Charles Phillips and Mark Ball officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team at Little Sandy United Methodist Church Cemetery.

His family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Tuesday at the funeral home and at other times will be at the residence.
