Trudy F. Webber

May 6, 1924 ~ September 16, 1999
September 16, 1999, at her residence following a lengthy illness.Born in Montgomery County, NC, on May 6, 1924, Trudy was the daughter of the late Willie H. and May Alice Mask Freeman. She attended Pheiffer College from 1940 to 1942 and graduated from Duke University School of Nursing in June, 1945.
A resident of Buncombe County for 36 years, Mrs. Webber worked in nursing at Memorial Mission Hospital for a short period before transferring to the VA Medical Center
in Asheville where she remained until retiring in 1975.
Among her many achievements, Trudy was co-founder of the North Carolina National Guard
Association (NCNGA) Auxiliary, past president of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 335, West Asheville; served on the Board of Directors, NCNGA Educational Foundation; and, served for more than ten years on the Scholarship Selection Committee, NCNGA Educational Foundation. Trudy was also a member of Arden Presbyterian Church for many years.
Trudy was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Edwin M. Webber in January, 1989, and by her eldest son, George W.
Webber in July, 1991.
She is survived by her
brother and his wife, W.H. and Rosalie Freeman of Concord, NC; a sister and her husband, Peggy Jean and Alvin Frix of Mt. Gilead, NC; a daughter and her husband, Cheryl Jean and Gary
Munday of Smithfield, NC; a son, Stephen M. Webber of Lake Lure, NC; a widowed daughter-in-law, Annette Crayton Webber of Asheville; a
step-son and his wife, Clifton R. and Joyce A. Walter of Leeds, ME; and eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, and six step great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at the Veterans Section of Forest Lawn Cemetery at 2:00 pm Sunday, September 19, 1999, with the Rev. Ed
Graham officiating.
Her family will receive
friends at the residence immediately following the service.
Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is in charge of the arrangements.
Everyone who knew Trudy knew her love of flowers and nature. She enjoyed them immensely during her life and stated many times that “just one rose will do” at her funeral.
Therefore, friends and family are requested not to send flowers or arrangements. Memorials may be
made in her name to the Ed and Trudy Webber Memorial Scholarship Fund at the NCNGA Educational Foundation, Inc., 7410 Chapel Hill Road, Raleigh, NC 27607; the Arden Presbyterian
Church, 2215 Hendersonville Road, Arden, NC 28704; or, to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 16, Asheville, NC 28802.
