Charlie G. Wells, 79, of 178 Willow Creek Road, Leicester, died Tuesday, January 18, 2000.

Mr. Wells was a retired farmer and a member of Big Sandy United Methodist Church where he served in various positions, including lay speaker, Sunday school teacher and Sunday School Superintendent. He loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and also loved people. To him, a person in need was an opportunity to help.

He was the son of the late Raymond E. and Phoebe Brown Wells.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lillian Payne Wells; a sister, Pearl Black and her husband Harold of Canton; a daughter, Beth Shook of Leicester; a son, Keith Wells and his wife Barbara of Leicester; three grandsons, Brian Wells, Derick Shook and Charles Shook and his wife Sherry, all of Leicester; a granddaughter, Terri Wells of Jacksonville, NC; three step-grandsons, Ronnie Brooks of Duncan, OK, Daniel Brooks of Stanley, NC, and Terry Brooks of Leicester.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday at Big Sandy United Methodist Church with the Revs. Ed Worley, Bill Gillespie and Steve Robinson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Vance Garrett, Steve and Kevin Duckett, George King, Aubrey and Phillip Wells, Ronald Prestwood and Bert Abrams. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill and Mike Duckett, Bob Buzzerd, David Urion, Bob and Bill Garrett, Hurley Prestwood, James and Ronnie Caldwell, and Charles and Terry Brown.

His family will receive friends from 7 - 9 pm Thursday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue and request that memorials be made to Big Sandy United Methodist Church, c/o Vance Garrett, Gilbert Road, Leicester, NC 28748.
