A native of Buncombe County, he was born December 29, 1913, to the late W.W. and Axie Scalf Crowder. He was a member of Hominy Baptist Church for over 50 years where he was a former choir member. Music and sports played a very important part of his younger life recording music as "The Crowder Brothers".
He had a great love for the outdoor life of fishing, hunting and camping. His hands were never idle, being an inventor and craftsman in his own quiet manner.
He retired as a printer having been employed at Grove’s, Crowder’s, and Clark’s Printing Companies. He was also employed for several years at Ecusta Paper Company in Brevard.
A devoted husband and loving father, he is survived by his wife of 63 years, Anna Lee Harron Crowder, two daughters and sons-in-law, Willene and Howard Wise and Margaret and Bruce Morgan, all of Candler; four grandchildren, Donna W. Parris, Jeff Wise, Katha M. Tassios, and Kevin Morgan; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Olfa of Asheville and Warren of Lakeland, FL. He was predeceased by three brothers, Clarence, Clovis and Alvah and two sisters, Vivian McCurry and Velva Herron.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Sunday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with Dr. Joe Yelton and the Rev. Rex Collins officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
