Lucille Curtis

Mrs. Curtis was born February 18, 1918, in Buncombe County and was a daughter of the late Andrew and Suphronie McAbee Burrell. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Alvin Curtis, Sr., who died in 1967, and by her son, George Alvin Curtis, Jr. who died in January of 2000. She was a 1935 graduate of Emma High School and was retired from Taylor Instrument.
She lived at Asheville Terrace Apartments for several years where she held various offices of the Resident’s Association. She was an avid reader and was a great role model for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by three daughters, Judy Summey of Greensboro, Aileen Crain of Asheville, and Mary Lou Biggs of Asheville; one son, Billy E. Curtis of Cash, OK; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, and was expecting a great-great-grandson in December.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Monday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with Dr. David Hanson officiating. Burial will be at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.
Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and at other times will be at the home of Mary Lou Biggs, 99 Mitchell Avenue.
Flowers will be accepted and appreciated or memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Two Hanover Square, Suite 1600, Raleigh, NC 27601, or the American Heart Association, 310-B Bennett Center Drive, Greer, SC 29650.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Asheville Health Care Center, Swannanoa, for the exceptional care provided during her illness.

Sorry to hear of the loss of your Mother. She is in a place where there is no pain now. Tell Sharon I said hello. I am Hubert & Jean Smith’s daughter and went to school with Sharon.
My Mother, Vera Warren Elkins, and I would like to express our deepest sympathy to your family in the loss of your Mother. We were neighbors for many years and we remember Lucille very well.
