Asheville - Thomas Lee Hamilton, of Ballantree Drive, died Saturday, October 20, 2001. He was born on a farm in Saline County, Kansas in 1929 to the late Ervin and Alice Baker Hamilton. After the death of his mother when he was 4, he was raised by the late Albert and Olga Shogren of Smolan, Kansas.

A graduate of Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas, he also received a Master’s degree in mathematics and statistics from Kansas State University. He served 3 years in the Army Artillery during the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. After Korea, he began teaching high school math in Kansas where he met his wife, also a first year teacher. He then continued teaching in the Mathematics Department at KSU.

For over 25 years, he was employed in the management of Computer Information Systems at Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester, New York.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Helen Bittle Hamilton; children, Steven Hamilton of Rochester, NY, Wendy Hamilton of Rochester, NY and by Mark Hamilton, his wife Kelly and their children Bennett and Coleman Hamilton of Charlotte. Also surviving are brothers, John Hamilton of Winston-Salem, James Hamilton of Dublin, Ohio and Joe Dean Hamilton of Mesa, Arizona; sisters, Patricia Wagner of Bennington, Kansas and Mary Mattson of Smolan, Kansas.

A devoted family man, he was active in school and community activities and served as Elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Victor, NY. He enjoyed having more time for travel after retirement.

Services will be held in the chapel of the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain at 12 noon Tuesday with the Rev. Anne Morgan officiating.

His family will receive friends following the service.
