Asheville - Richard O. “Dick” Moseley, 75, of Hollybrook Drive, died Saturday, December 8, 2001 in a local hospital.

A native of Spartanburg, SC he was the son of the late Richard Holly and Vaughtie Rhinehart Moseley, husband of the late Hilda Mae Renfro Moseley, who died in 1994 and was also preceded in death by a sister, Sarah Goins.

Dick moved to Asheville with his family shortly after his birth and his father founded Moseley Shoe Repair on College Street. He was an Army Air Force veteran of W.W. II and joined his father in 1959 at the business, repairing shoes of Asheville families until his retirement in 1992. Since his retirement, Dick remained active working with Western Carolina Oil Company. He was a longtime member of the Arden Presbyterian Church and in his free time enjoyed singing with barber shop quartets. He was a member of the Elks Club, the Oasis Shrine Temple and was a 32nd degree Mason.

He is survived by two daughters, Robbie Isley, and her husband Donnie, of Asheville, Deborah Connor, and her husband John, of Hendersonville; son, William J. “Bill” White, and his wife Cherie, of Charlotte; sister, Madeline E. Capps of Asheville; brother, Calvin C. Moseley, and his wife Mae Marie, of Moyock, NC; 8 grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 11 am Monday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian conducted by the Rev. Ed Graham and Mr. Jack Ramsey. Interment will follow in Shepherd Memorial Park.

His family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 pm Sunday at the funeral home on Long Shoals Road.

  1. I started calling him ‘Oscar’,when they lived on Murdock Ave.and started to school at Claxton and knew Louie. We lived on Robindale.He is one of my favorite people. My best regards. Jim Lanning.

  2. To: Dick’s Family — Dick finished Lee Edwards High in Asheville the year after me but I have known him since Junior High School Days. He enjoyed attending our Class of 43 functions and we have kept in touch. You have our heartfelt sympathy in your loss. Dick, who most of us remembered as ‘Oscar’ was a warm, loving and kind person who will be missed by all of us.

  5. Elmer is out of town right now, and was distressed to hear of Oscar’s death. We both thought the world of him. He is a pleasant , nice person to know. We will miss knowing he is around.
