Arden - Lillian Miriam Marlowe Meece, 95, of Arden, NC., died Monday, March 11, 2002, at the home of her daughter, in Ogden, Utah.

She was born in Henderson County, NC, September 2, 1907, to Judson Marlowe and Bessie Lancaster Marlowe. Mrs. Meece grew up in North Carolina and Oklahoma and attended Piney Grove and Oakley schools in a two room schoolhouse.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one stillborn child, two brothers Blaine and Woodford Marlowe and one sister, Marion Marlowe Sitton. She married Roy Meece of Arden, on October 30, 1926 in Greenville, SC and was married for 65 years. He died July 29, 1991 and they had ten children. Mrs. Meece taught Sunday school for over fifty years and served as church clerk and pianist at Boiling Springs and Mt. Gilead Baptist Churchs. She worked in missionary work in her early life and taught different ages. Throughout her life Lillian enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting, canning and loved beautiful flowers. The last three years of her life she traveled to New York, Washington, D.C. and Chicago and the rocky mountain west. She was a wonderful Christian lady who loved to tell others about Jesus, her savior and will be long remembered and greatly missed by family, friends and all the souls she touched during her life.

She is survived by nine children and their spouses, Kermit and Betty Meece of Daleville, Alabama, Arvel and Edith Meece of Raleigh, NC, Boyce Meece of Asheville, David, J.P. and Betty, and Eric Meece all of Arden, Ethel O’Kelly of Asheville, Don and Jeannie Marriott of Ogden, Utah, Milo and Nanci Garren of Arden; twenty-five grandchildren, thirty-eight great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marie Crawford of Horse Shoe, NC and Mariel McCallen of Margate, Fla., one brother, O.O. Marlowe of Fletcher; twenty-two nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to Lois B. Davis, Carolyn Rector and Pauline Lance for their support and comfort that they gave to mother over the years.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday at Boiling Springs Baptist Church with the Reverend Roy Rector and Reverend Roy Perry officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 - 9:00 Friday at Groce Funeral Home on Long Shoals Road. Mrs. Meece will be placed in the church thirty minutes prior to the service.

  1. I will always remember all of the good times that I spent as a child at mamaw Meece`s house.She was the best and will be greatly missed.We had 5 generations including mamaw
    and always took pictures at the yearly family reunion.It will never be the same without her.

  3. I never met Mrs. Meece but it sounds like she was a wonderful lady. I am sure that she will be greatly
    missed. Just remember, she is in a much better place now and will be watching over all of the people that she loved.
