Maude Davis Hendrix, 92, formerly of Hooper’s Creek Road, died Friday, Oct 7, 2011 at Universal Healthcare. A native and lifelong resident of Henderson County, Maude was the daughter of the late James Eli and Flora Hasseltyne Messer Davis and was preceded in death by two brothers and seven sisters. She was a member of Fletcher First Baptist Church where she served in various positions including playing the piano and organ. Maude was the first City Council woman elected in the newly incorporated Town of Fletcher in 1989. Maude received a proclamation from the Town of Fletcher proclaiming December 14, 1997 to be “Maude D. Hendrix” Day in the Town of Fletcher to honor and thank “Maudie” for her dedication and service to the Governing Board and citizens of the Town of Fletcher over the past eight years. She is survived by three daughters, Pat Fowler of Fletcher, Sandy McLeod of Asheville and Jackie Holbert of Arden, a sister, Irene Crot of Fort Walton, Florida. Maude is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. Maude was loved and respected by family and the entire community. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday at Fletcher First Baptist Church with the Reverends Roy Waldroup and Tony Fowler officiating. Burial will follow at Shepherd Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. prior to the service.

I hadn’t seen her since she worked at Thoms Hospital but thought of her often. She was a wonderful person & I know she will be missed. My condolence to your family.

You told me one time to always pray from my heart one of the many great things you tought me sitting on your porch for hours always giving the best advice. U will be missed

    Mrs. Maude was such a lively, lovable Lady with an infectious smile that held you close as you spoke with her. Even now as I drive up the Hoopers Creek Road, I still tell my husband that’s the Maude Hendrix home place. It and she will be a lasting landmark and representative of the history of the Hoopers Creek Community. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
