Alvin (Al) Hunter Gee, 80, of Givens Estates, died Friday, December 20, 2002, in an Asheville hospital. Alvin was a native of South Hill, VA, a son of the late Alvin Hite Gee and Mary Elizabeth Turner Gee. He had lived in Columbus, OH and Binghamton, NY before retiring and moving to Hendersonville in 1988. He was a Marine pilot in the Korean War and was retired from Columbia Gas Systems, Inc. of New York. He was a director of the Mountain Flyers Club of Asheville, past treasurer and director of the Western North Carolina Flyers Association, past president of the AMVETS Flying Club in Endicott, NY, and past president of the Kiwanis Club of Vestal, NY. He attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute at Blacksburg, VA and received a degree in Aeronautics from Northrop University in Inglewood, CA. He was a member of Mills River United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Lura McPeek Gee; one son James Gee of Hillsboro, OH; one daughter, Kristin Clark of Spring Hill, FL; three step-sons, David Vogel of Pittsburgh, PA, Michael Vogel of Atlanta, GA, and Charles Ortt of Columbus, OH; one step-daughter Ellen Brown of Columbus, OH; two grandchildren and five step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Baillet Gee, two brothers and one sister. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Monday at Mills River United Methodist Church with the Revs. Paul Thompson and Joe Fulk officiating. His family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Following cremation, burial will be in the Mills River United Methodist Church Memorial Garden. Memorials may be made to the Mills River United Methodist Church Building Fund or to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, Grand Central Station, PO Box 4777, New York, NY 10163. Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is in charge of the arrangements.

  1. I was a pilot friend of Al’s. I will always remember his quick smile and his gentle character. He was always concerned with others and was quick to lend a hand where needed.
