Alice Ownbey Holcombe

Alice Ownbey Holcombe, 84, died Thursday, March 6, 2003, at Aston Park Health Care Center. She was a native of Buncombe County and was a daughter of the late Ernest and Josie D. Ownbey. She was also preceded in death by her husband Arnold W. Holcombe who died in 1981, and by two brothers, E.J. and Bob Ownbey and a sister Lillian Cagle. She retired from American Enka and was a member of the Sand Hill Good Neighbors Club. She is survived by a daughter, Janie Holcombe of Weaverville; a son, Eddie Holcombe of Leicester; a brother, Louis Ownbey of Asheville, grandsons Jon and Ryan Shuford; close friend Jean Harkey and close nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be at 4:00 pm Saturday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Hacklander of Acton United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be private. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home immediately following the service.
