Allene Taylor Herron, 87, of Asheville went home to be with the Lord on Monday February 14, 2011. She was born in Buncombe Co. on April 8, 1923, to the late William and Maude Taylor. She retired from Mars Mfg. Co. after 33 years of service to stay at home and spend more time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Zephyr Hills Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin D. Herron, who died on November 2, 2010. She was also preceded by her brothers, Ernest Taylor, Don Taylor, Glenwood Taylor, and her sister, Katherine Burrell. She is survived by her beloved son, Randy Herron and daughter-in-law, Jackie; grandchildren Christina Ammons (Ryan), Abby Herron (John), and April Williams (Matt); great-grandchildren, Gage Herron, Heath Ammons, Rylan Ammons, and Tori Ammons; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Dr. Carson Moseley, Dr. Kelvin Moseley and the Rev. Danny Gasperson officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The greatest passion that Allene had was to help those in need. To fix a big meal she so enjoyed. And before you got away, she would enjoy telling you one of her stories of when she was just a little girl from the good ole' days. She could tell quite a story. Children were always a big part of her life. Especially In the last few years with her great-grandchildren. To her, they hung the moon and the stars. To the rest of the world, she was Allene, but to those grandbabies she lovingly was called "Eng". We love you "Eng." Memorials may be made to Zephyr Hills Baptist Church, 283 Shelburne Rd., Asheville, NC 28806, or to Pole Creek Baptist Church, 96 Snow Hill Church Rd., Candler, NC 28715.

We are praying for you as you walk through this valley of grief and sorrow. Knowing that Mrs. Allene is home with Jesus is comforting but it doesn’t stop the pain that death and separation create. We know that God’s grace will be enough for you and the Eternal God will be your Refuge and Strength.

She also took care of so many of our kids and grandkids after we grew up. I know its a sad time but just hold on the promise in Gods word that we will see her again one day soon. She is safe in the arms of Jesus and is with her family there, but I know there is a void in your life where she used to be. Our prayer for you is for strength and peace during this difficult time. love to all of the family.

  6. We hope that you can find comfort in knowing that your precious mother is resting in the house of our Lord. In His plan of salvation, he has assured us that we are here for a time, but will be in Heaven and united once more with our families, for eternity. Allene was such a delightful person, full of energy and laughter. We used to see her when she’d come to visit Ethel and Richard, and it was always a welcome sight to see her in their kitchen!

We are here if you need us.

  8. To the family of Ms. Allene,

I had the pleasure to work with Ms. Allene at Mars Mfg. She was a very kind person. I didn’t have a car when I worked at Mars, so I walked home everyday. I didn’t live too far, but Ms. Allene seen me walking one day and insisted that I ride with her. She wouldn’t take no for an answer. After that day she always seemed to be waiting for me after work. It was a pleasure to ride with her. We had some great conversations (even though she did most of the talking (:). I am so sorry for you’lls lost. Ms. Allene was a special person.

  10. Randy, Jackie, Abby and Tina-

I wish I could be there for the services. Eng shared a special place in my heart, the last time I got to spend time with her was holding baby Rylan right after his birth and she was so happy and proud. Many times I felt like one of her own grandchildren, I remember one time when I was a lot younger probably in middle school I was over at her house and playing with her jewelry, their was this costume pearl necklace that she noticed me paying special attention to and she gave it to me, her heart was so big. I know that she is up in heaven looking down upon all of us with Marvin by her side. Eng we will miss you so much.

    Love- Camille
