Allie B. Lawing

A lifelong resident of Asheville, she was a daughter of the late Ina Bishop Holder and Edward Bishop and was married to the late James Emmett Lawing. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Leila Davis and a son, Ernest Lawing.

Mrs. Lawing formerly operated a grocery store and also worked at Asheville Mica Co. and Phelps Manufacturing. She was a member of Sunrise Baptist Church.

Surviving are three children, Eileen Jenkins of Elkin, NC, Harold Lawing of Fletcher, and Doris Brookshire of Waynesville; twenty-two grandchildren, forty-seven great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Vinnie Russell of West Asheville and Lila Vess of Virginia; and a brother, Porter Holder of Asheville.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Higgins officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Grandsons will be pallbearers

Her family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
