Alma Evans Smith

Alma Evans Smith, 98, formerly of Asheville Terrace Apartments, died Friday, October 18, 2002, at her home at the Oaks of Sweeten Creek.
Mrs. Smith was a native of Halifax, VA and was a daughter of the late Robert and Alice Talley Loftis. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, R. Hugh Evans and Franklin Smith, and by two sons, Cedric Lee Evans and Robert Hugh Evans. She had lived in Buncombe County for more than 60 years and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Asheville.
She is survived by a daughter, Frances B. Adamo and her husband Kenneth of Egg Harbor Township, NJ; two sons, Wilson R. Evans and his wife Kate of Hendersonville and John T. Evans of Barefoot Bay, FL; 13 grandchildren, 20 great-gandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 2:00 pm Monday at Lewis Memorial Park with the Rev. Dr. Guy Sayles officiating.
Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is in charge of the arrangements.
Please accept my condolences at Alma’s death. I enjoyed visiting with her when Wilson and his wife were there. We spoke of fond remembrances about the past, including her wonderful cooking. May your memories comfort you and your faith sustain you at this time of personal loss and celebration of Alma’s life.
