Alma G. Prentice

Alma Gover Prentice, 83, of Whispering Owl Lane, Candler, died on Thursday, December 17, 2009, at her home. A native of Washington, DC, Mrs. Prentice was a daughter of the late Edwin and Ruth Shipe Gover. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Richard H. Prentice, who died in 2000. Mrs. Prentice had worked as a bank teller, and moved to Buncombe Co. from Melbourne, FL, in 1999. She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Peek, of Candler; grandchildren, Chuck Deweese and wife Tonya, Shelly Deweese Hipps and husband Michael, Donna Jones, Teresa Longo, and Richard Longo; and great-grandchildren, Hannah Deweese, Meredith Cornell, Carsen Deweese, Lauren Cornell, Elaina Deweese, Kala Jones, and Christina Scott. A funeral service for Mrs. Prentice will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 120 Executive Park, Asheville, NC 28801.
