Amelie “Emily” Ewbank Mitchell, 94, of Asheville passed away peacefully on Friday, January 11, 2019.
A native of Hendersonville, she was the daughter of the late John Ewbank and Grace Schaeffer Ewbank.
Emily was an active member of Arden Presbyterian Church for many years where she served in various leadership roles. A graduate of Columbia Bible College, now known as Columbia International University, she taught Bible in the public schools of Bluefield, West Virginia until she met and married Lewis D. “Bud” Mitchell, her husband of 58 years. The couple then returned to the Asheville area where she became a mother and homemaker.
She is survived by her son, Robert Drayton Mitchell, and wife Melissa of Christiansburg, Virginia, as well as her daughter Rebecca Mitchell Maney, and husband Brice of Gastonia, North Carolina. Emily was also blessed with six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at Oakdale Cemetery in Hendersonville, with Reverend Dwight Basham officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Arden Presbyterian Church Faith Promise Fund, 2215 Hendersonville Road, Arden, N. C. 28704.
