Ana Gloria Agüero Valdivieso de Flores passed into Life Eternal after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She died of heart failure on March 18, 2012. Ana was born on January 31, 1927, in Camagüey, Cuba, to the late Emilio Aguero Gomez and Onelia Valdiviseo Garcia. She was preceded in death by a brother, Emilio de Agüero Valdivieso, and a sister, Onelia de Agüero Valdiviseo. She studied at the University of Camaguey after which she moved to New York where she worked as a writer and translator for J. Walter Thompson Advertising, and as Associate Creative Art Director for a Spanish advertising agency. Ana was a free lance writer for Avon and other advertising firms, and she wrote ads for radio, newpapers and magazines. In 1976 she published her Cookbook, "La Cocina International del Aceite de Oliva". Recipes from her book appeared in the New York Times and the Miami Herald. She was the founder and owner of Hispanic Communications. She moved to Miami in 1986 where she continued writing for Shepherd, Lóve & Costa and other firms. In 2006 Ana retired to Asheville and became a member of the Basilica of St. Lawrence, D.M.. Ana is survived by her cherished and long time friend, Meida Reisco, who was her caregiver until her passing. In addition she leaves her nieces, Beatriz, Teresa and Ana Maria Agüero; Maria Antonieta and Diana Gonda; and nephews, Esteve Smoak, Luis Jr., and Rick Gonda; Jóse Ignacio and Jóse Emilio; and by her cousins, Hector Paneque, Gladys Lopez Trigo Sr., and Gladys Jr., Candida, Margarita and Vilma. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, March 23 at 1:00 p.m. in the Basilica of St. Lawrence, D.M., by Rev. C. Morris Boyd, D.Min. Interment following Mass in Green Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to the John F. Keever Solace Center at Care Partners, P.O. Box 5779, Asheville, NC 28813, would be appreciated. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. is assisting the family.
