Asheville, NC ~ Anna Creech Brown Martin, 87, passed away on Friday, January 11, 2008 at the John F. Keever, Jr. Hospice Solace Center in Asheville. She moved from Charlotte to Asheville in 1997.
Anna was born in Scotland Co, NC to Charles Creech and Mary Scholl Creech. She was preceded in death by two husbands, James “Jimmy” Brown and Thurman Martin; her beloved son, James “Andy” Brown, who passed away in 2001 following a long illness and three brothers, Lawrence Creech, JR Creech and Evans Creech.
She spent most of her adult life in Charlotte, where she maintained a successful hand-made drapery business for over 30 years. Anna was an avid square dancer and card player. Her wonderful biscuits graced many tables throughout the years.
Surviving are her two daughters and their families, Mary Jo and Wally Zieverink of Birmingham, AL and their three children, Walt and his wife, Nancy, Barbara Zieverink and David and his wife, Tracy, all of Birmingham, AL and Teresa and Jim Torpey, of Asheville and their two daughters, Jennifer Szakaly and her husband, Joseph of Cornelius, NC and Melissa Torpey of Woodbridge, VA. Andy’s children, Joseph and Amy Brown live with their mother, Teresa in Lillington, NC. She is also survived by four great granddaughters, Jordan, Sloen and Emori Zieverink, all of Birmingham, AL and Ava Lillian Szakaly of Cornelius, NC.
As a young child, Anna helped care for and raise her sisters after their mother died at an early age. Her three surviving sisters are Mabel Goodgame and Margaret White, both of Charlotte and Frances Hunley and her husband, Tom, of Wilmington, NC. She leaves numerous nieces, nephews and cousins who will remember her kindness and special smile.
Reverend Francis T. Cancro will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial, which will be held at Queen of the Apostles Catholic Church in Belmont, NC on Monday, January 14, 2008 at 11:00 AM.
Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte, where she will be laid to rest next to Jimmy Brown.
