Annie Gasperson Metcalf, 98, of Arden, passed away at the Elizabeth House on Thursday, February 22, 2024.

Annie was a daughter of the late William Oliver Gasperson and Martha Belle Shepherd Gasperson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Everett Metcalf and her siblings, Oscar, Henry, Earl, Allen, Lynn, Horace, Lorene and Celia.

Annie was a longtime member of Words Of Life Tabernacle, where she had taught Sunday School, cooked for many families and always loved and supported the church community. She enjoyed sewing and quilting, gardening and canning. Her quilts won many awards and she sold several for charity causes.

She is survived by three children, Ima Jean Barton (her husband Harold), Ray Metcalf (his wife Rita) and Rick Metcalf (his wife Jeanette); four grandchildren, Annette Merrill (her husband Jason), Karen Roche (her husband Ryan), Kevin Metcalf and Ashley Schlagenhauf (her husband Micah); great grandchildren, Justin, Nathan, Alex, Brandon, Celia, Malachi and Abigail; one sister, Shirley Bostic (her husband, the late Wade); special sister and brother in law, Clara and Richard Hayes, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held starting at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 24 in the Chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian in Arden with Pastors Carl Bishop and Gerald Wilkie officiating. Burial will follow at the Words Of Life Cemetery. Her family will greet friends at the funeral home on Saturday afternoon from 1:00 until 2:00 PM.

The family wishes to thank the staffs of The Laurels Of Hendersonville, the Elizabeth House and the Pardee Hospital Emergency Department for their loving and dedicated care of Annie.

  3. Annie was my great aunt…my grandmother’s (Nanny) sister. My Nanny always loved all of her siblings but I think Annie the most. Maybe it was because they were 18 years apart. My Nanny helped raise her. She always loved when she could see her. Now they are together again. I miss them both very much.

  6. i am so sorry for your loss. Annie was a stalwart member of Avery’s Creek Community and our long time neighbor. I did not know of her passing until today (Sunday). i always think of her inside her home when I drive by. She was most gracious when I saw her. What a wonderful lady.

  8. I am so sorry to hear about the death of Annie Mae. She was my earthly connection to my Mom, Hester Ducker Flynn. She and Everett traveled with my Mom and Dad to Greenville, SC when they were married. She and my Mom were good friends. I have one of her quilts and I love it. What a great Godly lady she was. I know she is happy in heaven.
