Asheville – Annie Laurie Reynolds Baley, born Feb. 15, 1920 to parents William C. Reynolds and Eula Bagwell Reynolds of Hartwell, GA, died Friday, August 04, 2006 in Asheville, NC. She was preceded in death by her brother, Charles “Charlie” William Reynolds. In 1948, Annie married William “Bill” Jackson Baley, who died in 1999. She is survived by her nieces, Sandra Reynolds Suttles of Mills River, NC and Kathy Baley Atkinson of Atlanta, GA; nephews Charles Kenneth Reynolds of Round Hill, VA and James M. Baley, III of Asheville, NC and six great-nieces and nephews. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in West Asheville, where she was a loyal member of her Sunday School class. She was very supportive to the special needs individuals at the church and enjoyed mentoring young couples who were new to the congregation. She also regularly invited church members to the library on Sundays to read Christian books. Annie worked for Southern Bell for 35 years. She started her career there as an operator in 1940 and retired in 1975 as full office manager. She rose through the ranks with grace and determination. Annie’s keen mind, love of life and love of people is reflected in her many group memberships. She was a Bridge Life Master and member of the American League of Contract Bridge. She also belonged to the Telephone Pioneers of America, the Rhododendron Club of America, the Red Hat Society and the National Association of Rare Disorders. Annie was also a member of the Buncombe County Association of Retarded Citizens as she lovingly cared for her mentally disabled brother, William C. “Junior” Reynolds, Jr. Annie and Bill loved ballroom dancing and traveling and she excelled in her love of the piano and knitting needles. Annie touched so many lives with her generous spirit and love of life. She will be sorely missed. May each of us exhibit the love, compassion and consideration which she showed every day to make our world a better place. A funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, August 7 at Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. Buddy Corbin officiating. Interment will follow at Green Hills Cemetery. Her family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 PM on Monday at the church. Guestbook

  1. I share your loss. I consider Annie a true friend -fun-interesting-wise-loving-caring. I will miss her.

I’m glad she had her nieces and nephews to love and care for her especially after Bill’s death.

  2. I am so sorry to hear that Annie has passed before I got to see her again. I find comfort knowing that she is with Bill and my mom and dad in heaven-probably making up for lost time at the Bridge table. I loved she and Bill so much! Julie

  3. I am also a member of Calvary Baptist Church and have always enjoyed talking to the Baileys on Sunday mornings or any other times when I might see them. I’ll miss them. My deepest sympathies are with the family.
