Bernice was a registered nurse and loved her pediatric patients at St. Michael's Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Despite her diagnosis of multiple sclerosis in 1965, she was a loving wife and mother, who remained devoted to her family.
In 1985, the family relocated to Asheville. Bernice loved the mountains and she and Jack became active in the community and at the parish of St. Eugene. She was an inspiration to others for the last 10 years as a Meals On Wheels volunteer at the Asheville Terrace Apartments, despite being wheelchair bound. Bernice brought hope and love to many with her upbeat, joyful attitude.
A Mass of Resurrection is scheduled for Friday, January 13, 2012, at 10 am at the Parish of St. Eugene, 72 Culvern Street. The Rev. Father Patrick Cahill and the Rev. Dr. Michael Zboyovski will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Asheville Catholic School, 12 Culvern St., Asheville, NC 28804, and/or to Meals On Wheels, 146 Victoria Rd., Asheville, NC 28801.

Please accept my sincere condolences. You have been an inspiration of faith and good will. I still have fond memories of the parade float building project (many moons ago) that we, Asheville Catholic School parents, did in your home drive way and the wonderful cookies that Bernice would bake for us!
Be assured of good thoughts and prayers as you grieve.

Not a day goes by that Jim and I don’t think about you. You and Jack believed in Jim and I and you treated me like a daughter and gave me unconditional love. You will always be my hero.I thank God everyday that he gave me such a wonderful mother-in-law to love and care deeply about.
As your granddaughter mackenzie said the day after you died, you were a magnificent woman, inspiration, grandmother, to have been such a role model for the young women in your life. The world has been a better place now. Rest in peace. I wish I had the chance to know you.
