  13. Dear Harbison Family,
Betty and Charles were my neighbors for 18 years at Park Avenue. Welcoming, humorous and generous only begin to describe Betty (and Charles). When my parents passed away, she and Charles were there looking out for me and I’ve never forgotten their many kindnesses then and throughout the years that we lived across the street from each other. My heart goes out to all of you as I know you must miss her dearly. However, I am confident that Betty has become one of God’s newest angels and one day we will all see her again. My love to all of you.

  14. My wife, JoAnne, and I are saddened by your loss. We knew Betty as a sweet and gentle Park Avenue neighbor. She and Charles were a gracious couple. And I so much enjoyed my stops for theological discussions with Mark. God bless all of you as you take joy in the life of this wonderful woman.

  15. On the passing of Mrs. Betty Haynes Harbison, my dearest friend, sister at heart and in Christ; I offer my deepest and most sincere sympathy to her wonderful family – Charlene, Doug, Mark and David, grandchildren, great-grandchildren; sisters, Jeannette, Gloria, Joyce, and brother Stanley. May God send angels to be with you.

Betty, a beautiful soul of faith, love, dignity and distinguished humanity, is now with God – reunited with Charles, Sr., Charles, Jr., Ritchie and Karen.

I will always remember her as caring, devoted, faithful and in loving service to her family, especially as mother to her children and to her beloved husband, Charles, my friend, who predeceased her.

I celebrate Betty’s life, and I am thankful that she was so much a part of my life. I have beautiful memories of her – as best friends and neighbors – living next door to her, seeing her care for Charles, Charlene and Charles, Jr. (Ba’y Brother); preparing to visit her brother in Chicago with Jeannete and Robert Harbison; my babysitting Charlene, Ba’y Brother, Mark and Doug, while she and Charles visited Gloria in Durham; first time meeting with younger daughter Karen and her children, and seeing Charlene, again, with her family. I last saw Betty and Charles at the surprise party that I gave for my mother on her 70th birthday. Without saying they were coming; they drove from Asheville to Greenville to attend the party and surprised me.

We enjoyed sharing our gifts and talents – recipe exchanges, love of painting, books, 4-H activities, home decorating and more. Through the years, we kept in touch – visits, frequent phone calls, letters, birthday and holiday cards, gifts of books, recipe exchanges; supporting, advising, listening and caring, as friend do – sharing our faith, joys, sorrows, disappointments. There are so many memories of this once in a lifetime friendship. I remember Betty most for our shared faith and our understanding, loving, caring for and valuing our families

My dear Harbison Family, I believe God rests Betty’s soul in peace and has given her eternal repose.

“May the Lord of Peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way.” – Thessalonians 3:16

I ask God’s love, care and comfort to lead, guide and protect you, always.

    Blessings! Grace! Joy! Mercy! Peace!
    With Love,
    Ruth L. Burgin

  16. Thought so much of Betty and appreciated her through the years! God Bless the entire family.
