Betty J. (Wheeler) Ensley, 86, of Hendersonville, died unexpectedly Sunday, August 21, 2022 at Mission Hospital.
Born in Flat Creek, NC, she was the wife of the late Wayburn Ensley, and the daughter of the late Ann Lee (Wheeler) Trexler. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Wheeler.
Betty was employed for many years by CTS, where she was a pitcher on the company softball team for 10 years. She loved watching sports, especially March Madness, and was a die-hard Tar Heels fan, even though she hated to see any team lose.
Betty enjoyed the outdoors where she liked to hike in the mountains. She loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren more than anything. She will be remembered for her endless kindness, sense of humor and zest for life.
She is survived by a son, Jeff Ensley and his wife Shana Greger of Brevard; a daughter, Kelly Henshaw of Hendersonville; a granddaughter, Jessica Henshaw and her husband Colman Lynch; and a great-grandson, Desmond “Desi” Lynch.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Conserving Carolina online at www.conservingcarolina.org/donate. If you’d like to toast in her honor, she was very well-known for ruining a good red wine with several ice cubes.

Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.
There will not be a formal service per Betty’s wishes.

To Kelly and all the Family,
I am saddened to hear this news about Bet and am sending prayers for all of you. Bet was one of the sweetest, most kind woman I have known… always concerned about others beyond her own concerns. I will miss talking with her on the phone and hearing that southern charm and receiving that warm hug that she could send through the air waves…quite a gift!
God’s comfort and healing to you all.
Love, Lori
