Betty Taylor McCulloch died Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at Elizabeth House in Flat Rock, NC. Prior to her short stay there, she resided in her independent cottage at the Marjorie McCune Center in Black Mountain, NC and served on the Board of Directors there.

Betty was the daughter of the late Charles and Edith Taylor. She married Harry Stuart McCulloch in 1954, and they were married for 60 years. Harry passed away in 2014. She was also preceded in death by her two brothers Bobby and Jack.

Along with raising her family, Betty worked as an X-ray technician at the former Aston Park Hospital in downtown Asheville. She was a true entrepreneur, starting and co-owning an antique business called Mac’s Antiques. She was a self-taught antique professional and dealer, often advising others.

Betty’s greatest joy was her family. She was a woman with a strong faith and caring nature, always putting others before herself. She is survived by three children, nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren: daughter Diane M Trantham (Bryan), sons Stephen H (Steve) McCulloch (Lynn) and Brian D McCulloch (Kim); grandchildren Brad, Marcia (Nick), Mark, David (Stephanie), Kevin (Denise), Breanna, Brittany, Jordan (Allison), Ryan; great grandchildren Elijah, Cora, Theo, Gabe, Becklee, Walden, Jack, Liam, Chloe; brothers Charles Taylor (Carolyn) and David Taylor (Terry).

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, January 11th at Oak Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity.

Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is assisting the family.
