Betty M. Sharpe, 89, of Leicester, passed away peacefully on Thursday the 28th of October, 2021, in her home. She was the widow of Woodrow F. Sharpe and the daughter of the late Sam and Florence Hawks Meadows. She was preceded by brothers Wayne Meadows, Wade Meadows, Don Meadows, Harold Meadows, and sisters Katherine Meadows and Juanita Sharpe.

She is survived by her children, Steven Sharpe and Cathie S. Mitchell (Douglas); daughter-in-law, Joan Sharpe; grandchildren, Adam Wharton (Jennifer), Rebecca Wharton, and Matthew Dylan Mitchell, Sr. (Hannah); great-grandchildren, Beatrix Wharton, Bodhi Wharton, Brooks Wharton, Gabriel Vines, Lena Vines, Abigail Mitchell, Matthew D. Mitchell, Jr.; brothers, Kyle Meadows, Owen Meadows of Leicester, and Floyd Meadows of Arden; and sister, Carolyn Radcliff of Leicester.

She was a member of Beulah Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and directed Vacation Bible School for many years. She was a faithful woman and a prayer warrior to her family, friends, and her church. She was a proud Grandmama, Great Grandmama, and “Aunt Betty” to many. She was a former US Postal clerk for the Leicester post office.

The family would like to thank Four Seasons Hospice for their care and compassion and a special thanks to Charlotte, her favorite nurse who she loved dearly.

The visitation will be held at Beulah Baptist Church, 929 N Turkey Creek Rd, Leicester, NC 28748 at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday the 31st of October with the celebration of life service at 4:00 p.m. with The Rev. Ricky Wolfe and The Rev. Bobby Smith officiating. Burial will take place Monday the 1st of November at 10:00 a.m. Family and friends are all welcome.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Beulah Baptist Church in her memory, 373 North Turkey Creek Rd, Leicester, NC 28748.

  1. Betty was truly a wonderful Christian lady who always had a kind word or gentle smile. She always treated me like one of her own. Heaven gained a precious soul and she will dearly be missed. Many prayers for this precious family.

  3. Aunt Betty cared for my brother and me when we were young children while our mother recovered from back surgery. She was always a shining light in my life. She will b egg missed by many but I certainly have the hope of seeing her again.

  12. This precious one was the only one besides myself who reported to the Leicester post office during the “great blizzard” because we were told we had to. We became stranded and the rescue squad people took us to her home until my husband could come for me. So gracious and kind! She will certainly have a great reward

  14. Steve Cathie & the whole Meadows family, I’m so very sorry to hear of Aunt Betty’s Passing. I meet her thru Penny but she always made me feel like family & I always called her Aunt Betty. Whenever I would see her out see would always give me a big hug & have that petty smile on her face. Precious Lady! We have that promise we will see her again. Heaven gain another Angel!
