Beulah Radford Sluder, 83, of 145 Old No. 20, Asheville, died Sunday, March 10, 2002, at her home.

Mrs. Sluder was born in Madison County and was a daughter of the late Martin Luther and Elsie Mae Bell Radford. She was a former employee of American Enka and was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, David Mitchell Sluder; one daughter, Rebecca Costner and her husband David of Lexington, SC; one son, David Martin Sluder and his wife Ann of Asheville; four sisters, Irma Hampton of Asheville, Thelma Ratcliff and Jeanette Radcliff of Leicester, and Pat Walters of High Point; and two brothers, Charles H. Radford of Arden and Jack Radford of Asheville; five grandchildren, David Mitchell Sluder, Michelle Sluder McGlothlin, Jennifer Costner Greene, Laura Costner Summerlin and Julie Costner O'Kelly; and four great-grandchildren, Hannah Marie O'Kelly, Alex Channing McGlothlin, Evan Costner Greene and Rebecca Ross Greene.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Tuesday at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Ronnie Owen officiating. Burial will be at Green Hills Cemetery.

Her family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service and request that memorials be made to Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Building Fund, 200 Mt. Carmel Road, Asheville, NC 28806.

  2. Beulah, I cannot be there to formally say goodby, but my every thought will be with you and the family as you journey to the greater glory. You have given wonderful memories to me from my earliest years until my senior years. Whenever I think of you a warmth comes over me just recalling that great mischievous twinkle in your eyes. Thank you for sharing a home with my family during World War II, a very difficult time in our lives. Thank you for the great picnics when we visited. Thank you for being such a lovely friend to my mother. Thank you for raising my two terrific cousins and imparting the strength of your solid values to them.
