Bill W. Shook passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at his home with his beloved wife and children near him.

Bill resided in Buncombe County for much of his life and is the son of the late Dewitt W. Shook and Lillian Sloop Shook. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three siblings, Mary Pruitt, Bobby Shook, and Jeanette Turner.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy I. Shook, and three children: Steve Shook (Donna Shook), Stuart Shook, and Beverly Berger (Kurt Berger). His four grandchildren are Hunter Shook (Heaven Shook), Connor Shook, Erik Berger, and Alyssa Berger.

Bill and his wife were high school sweethearts and upon graduation, he attended the University of South Carolina – Columbia to obtain a degree in Pharmacy but the love for his sweetheart, the mountains, and an opportunity to work for the railroad, changed his career path. He was the agent for Norfolk and Southern Railway’s Canton and Waynesville Divisions until retirement.

Bill enjoyed playing and watching sports, being outdoors, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling with family, and working on a variety of indoor and outdoor projects.

Adored by all who knew him, Bill was a wonderful father, husband, and grandfather and was a devoted and active member of Hominy Baptist Church.

A memorial service will be held in the chapel at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue on Wednesday, August 24, at 2:00 p.m.
