Bonnie March Cassida, 94, of the Reynolds community, Asheville, died Tuesday, May 5, 2009. Mrs. Cassida was a native of Buncombe County and was raised by her grandmother, Ada Brown Hicks. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Jesse Winfield Cassida, who died in 1953, her son, Lloyd A. "Hoppy" Cassida, and her brother, Julius Hicks. Mrs. Cassida was a former supervisor with Glendale Manufacturing and she had been a member of Gashes Creek Baptist Church since 1939. She attended Oakley School and was a charter member of the Reynolds Fire Department Auxiliary. She also served on the board of directors for several terms She was a quilter, loved to garden and crochet. She traveled extensively visiting all of the U.S. states. She is survived by three daughters, Jane C. Conner and her husband, Martin, of Reynolds, Ruth Stamey and her husband, Carl, of Canton, and Linda Kernick of Asheville; ten grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. The funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Bonnie Vee Cassida officiating. Interment will be at Gashes Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Lyle Lance, Trent Lance, J.C. Phillips, Bill Williams, Alex Beale, David Tinsley and John Cassida. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the Gashes Creek Cemetery Fund, 308 Gashes Creek Road, Asheville, NC 28803.

  5. Mrs. Cassida was always such a lovely lady. Growing up at Gashes Creek Church she was always there sitting on the same seat every Sunday with her lovely smile on. I am sure you guys will miss her but just know she is in HEAVEN with her other family and friends who have already gone on.

    passing. Haven’t seen any of you in forever.My maiden name is Freeman. Bonnie & my mom (Inez Freeman)were like two peas in a pod.On Sat. night it was wrestling
    and monopoly tli the wee hours of
    the morning. Those were the days.
    I don’t remember a lot of my child-
    hood ,but I have fond memories of
    those times.Don’t know if I can make the funeral,know you will be
    in my thoughts and prayer.

  8. I was so sorry to hear about Bonnie. She worked with my mother-in-law, Nadean Lefler, at Terry Enterprises for a number of years. When she started traveling, she always brought my father-in-law, Roy, a pen from where ever she had been. She would come by and visit with them. They both thought a lot of Bonnie. She was a wonderful person. The world is a sadder place without her today but she is at rest with no more pain. May God comfort the family during this time and ease their heart ache. Donna Lefler
