Asheville - Bynum Neil Meadows, 41, of 284 Hazel Mill Road, died Saturday, June 8, 2002 at his residence.

A lifelong resident of Buncombe County he was the son of Richard B. “Barney” and Imogene Haynes Meadows. Neil was a graduate of Erwin High School, A-B Tech, the Alpha Beauty School and the Barbizon Modeling School and Agency. He was a graduate of Gupton Jones College of Mortuary Science in Atlanta and had been a funeral director with Groce Funeral Home since 1988. He was a charter member of the Grace Fellowship Metropolitan Community Church and served as church pianist.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his long-time friend and companion, Jeffrey Brian Meadows; his daughter, Fatima LeDey Meadows, of Asheville; his brother, Ephraim Lane Meadows, of Flag Pond, Tenn.; family friend, Rita Harris, of Asheville; nieces and nephews, Tabitha White, Mathew Meadows, Candace Meadows and Nicholas Meadows and his great nephew, Dalton White.

A memorial service will be held at 6:30 pm Monday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian conducted by the Revs. Sandi Rice and Carlene Wood. His family will receive friends following the service.

  2. I am very sorry to hear about Neil’s death. I worked with him, and regarded him as a friend, he was a very talented person, and could do almost anything he set his mind to. The families he waited on, seemed to like him very much and would comment on how friendly and nice he was. Anthoni and Fatima were classmates at Nazarene Christian School from preschool to 5th grade and are still close friends. Rita is a close family friend as well.   17. Mr. and Mrs. Meadows, I just learned today about Neil’s death. My sincere sympathy goes out to you in your loss. Neil and I were classmates from first grade through high school. I remember Neil’s smile and kind nature. I don’t think he ever spoke harshly of anyone throughout all our school years. He will truly be missed. My prayers will be with you and all of Neil’s family and loved ones through this very difficult and painful time.
