Casey Donald Ward

casey ward

February 20, 1972 ~ February 16, 2020

Born in: Asheville, NC
Resided in: Arden, NC

Casey Donald Ward was born on February 20, 1972 in Asheville, NC to Laura McHone Ward and the late James Lloyd Ward Sr. On February 16, 2020 at the age of 47, he went to meet with his brothers Scottie and Chris in heaven.

Casey graduated from Asheville High School in 1990, and went on to become a member of the Army Reserve for 10 years. He had an entrepreneurial spirit and after many small business ventures, he found his passion as a bail bondsman. In 2003 he opened “KC Bonding” where he was known for his compassion and genuine love for the community. He never judged people based on their situation instead, he loved people for who they were. His greatest pleasure was being an amazing father to his five children. He taught his children the importance of manners, living your life on your own terms, being yourself, being kind to others, and to “treat the janitor with the same respect as the CEO.”

Casey was not only a great father to his children, he was a mentor to many youth within the community. He was a football coach for Asheville Youth, a track coach for Valley Middle School, and started the Inner City Youth Baseball League. Casey didn’t know a stranger, he was known all over for his big personality and love for people. No matter where he went he was always true to himself whether it was coming up with a new side hustle, showing off his swag, joking, or getting into one of his many shenanigans.

Left to cherish his memory are four daughters, Terran Samone Ward, Tia Nicole Ward, Mya Colby Ward, and Bobbi Elizabeth Ward; two sons Casey Donald Ward II, and nephew Zachary Dean McHone; three brothers Bryan Dean McHone, James Lloyd Ward Jr.(Kimberly), and Timothy Nicholas Ward (Brandi); six nieces Kara, Tanya, Lauren, Kaitlyn, Fatih, and Carleigh; four nephews Zachary, Christopher, Casone, and Timothy (Bohammer) and a host of friends and extended family.

A Celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 22 in the Asheville High School Auditorium. Flowers are appreciated and may be delivered to Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian in Arden.

As I reflect on the many years I have known Casey, talks we’ve had, him always encouraging/coaching other children, our kids growing up together and running from house to house – him always looking for both of our 2nd borns (cause they were always into something)-lol. Even after they moved, things never changed with our families even as I see them as adults.Casey was short in statue, but lived a big life!! It all seems like yesterday and now we’re saying see you in the morning my friend!

  28. I met Casey this past year, had the pleasure to talk with him a bit, met some of his dear children, and learned of his deep love and big heart for his family and all who he was close to. I’m so thankful to have met him, and to have had the moments to listen & share together. I was shocked and so sad to learn of his passing, seemingly all too soon. God has him, in His Care, and we have Hope to meet again, as believers. Prayers are being lifted for each of his children, and all of his family. I’m praying for the comfort and supernatural peace, that only The Lord can give, to carry, sustain, and comfort, Casey’s children, family, and all who were touched by his life. To his family-The Author of Life will comfort you, bless you, give you His Hope, and will carry you through life and this especially sad time. God is with you. Know you are being lifted in prayer. (I’m so very sorry for your loss).

  29. In shock , I pray you are now at peace. You left a legacy and a lasting impression on so many , we will never forget you .

  30. I am truly heartbroken to hear of Casey’s passing. He was always so genuine and positive. He was such a peacemaker and wanted all to be happy and fruitful. He was truly someone who would give you the shirt off his back and sacrifice. He taught me so much and pushed me to do what I always doubted in myself. You will always be apart of my memory and it will be cherished.
