Catharine Kille Bagwell, 96, formerly of West Asheville, died Wednesday, December 25, 2002, at her home at Givens Estates United Methodist Retirement Community where she had been a resident for the past 23 years. Mrs. Bagwell was born in Asheville and was a daughter of the late James and Mamie Havendar Kille. She was married to Leo H. Bagwell who died in 1990, and was also preceded in death by three sisters, Sarah and Charlotte Kille and Hilda Willis and by two brothers, John and Kenneth Kille. She was a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she served at various times as Superintendent of the Children’s Department, taught Sunday School, directed the Senior Young at Heart Group and was President of the Women’s Society of Christian Service. She also held positions in the District and Jurisdiction of the Women’s Society. She was an accomplished seamstress and drapery maker. She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Elizabeth (Beth) Laurent and her husband Frank of Brookfield, WI; one grandson, Rev. Andrew D. Hofler and his wife Tina of Minneapolis, MN; two great-grandchildren, Tirzah and Jeremiah (J.D.) Hofler; a brother, Morris B. Kille and his wife Mary of Dumas, TX, and a sister-in-law Dorothy Kille of Charlotte as well as a number of nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be at 1:00 pm Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church, 587 Haywood Road, with the Revs. Marion G. Moore, Ralph L. Reed and Andrew Hofler officiating. Private burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. Her family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service and request that memorials be made to the Supplemental Assistance Fund at Givens Estates, 2360 Sweeten Creek Road, Asheville, NC 28803.

  1. I am the former Patsy Pack, daughter of Tom and Dot Pack,who were close friends of Kitty and Buddy Bagwell. My father worked with him at Haverty’s Furniture Company.I have so many happy memories of times in my childhood with them. I am so sorry for your loss.
