Asheville Butterfly TrailA native of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late R.S. and Nellie Carver Israel. He was a US Navy Veteran of WW II and formerly worked with the Civilian Conservation Corp and later retired from American Enka.
His survivors include a daughter, Betty Israel of Leicester; a son, Charles Ray Israel of Leicester; sisters, Reva Angel of Leicester, Ellen Fisher of Weaverville, Sue Miller of Greenville, SC; brothers, Frank Israel of Candler, Bob Israel and Gay Israel both of Leicester; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the Patton Avenue Chapel of Groce Funeral Home. Revs. Charles Phillips and Lee Davis will officiate with burial following in Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery.
His family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
