Charles Franklin Stanberry, 78, of 6 Hillcrest Street, Enka, passed away following an extended illness on Saturday, October 25, 2008, at Pisgah Manor Health Care. A native of Swain County, he was a son of the late Turner and Mayme Miller Stanberry. A USMC veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was retired from BellSouth after 36 years of service. A member of Edgewood Baptist Church, he enjoyed playing the guitar and sharing his musical talents with family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Claudine Bryant Stanberry; a daughter, Cindy Myers of Enka; three sons, Charles "Chuck" Stanberry of Hendersonville, Cliff Stanberry of Candler and Clark Stanberry of Cumming, GA; a sister, Jean Ladd of Granitesville, SC; a brother, William "Bill" Stanberry of Boone; three grandchildren, Chi Glass, Rachel Stanberry and Nicole Myers. Funeral services will be 3:00 pm Monday at Edgewood Baptist Church with the Revs. Ron Brown, Lewis Gibson and Matt Pruett officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. His family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 pm Monday prior to the service. Flowers are greatly appreciated or memorials may be made to Care Partners Solace Center, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813 or to Edgewood Baptist Church, 100 Moody Avenue, Asheville, NC 28806. The family would like to thank the staff and nurses of Pisgah Manor for the excellent care Mr. Stanberry received.

  4. While I knew Charlie only briefly, I found him to be a very fine individual and wonderful family man. I truly loved his music and still listen to the tapes he gave me many years ago!

  6. I am sorry to hear of Charlies passing our prayers will be with the family.
    I worked with Charlie many years at Bell South and found him to be a real friend who was always the same all the time I knew him.
    I was out of town this last week and didn’t see his obituary until today after his funeral.
    May the peace of God be with the family and that you may know he is now with Christ making music with the angels……….

  9. Charles Stanberry was a man that you could pattern your life after. He was kind gentle but strong and very faithful to his family and friends. He was very kind to me, I knew him well, he was my uncle. May God always bless his wife and childern for many generations to come. We love Uncle Charles!
