Charles John Noufer, 90, of Asheville, passed away peacefully with family by his side Monday, September 14, 2015 at Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community. A native of Youngstown, OH, he was a son of the late John and Anna Jamelsky Noufer. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Mildred Englehart and her husband, Carl. Mr. Noufer proudly served his country as a member of the Army Air Corps and spent the majority of his service time in the China Burma India Theater. He received a BA from Youngstown College and his Masters from the University of Pittsburgh. Chuck traveled extensively and loved nothing more than to share wine, food and stories with family and friends. He never met a stranger, and made friends wherever he went. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Moore Noufer; one daughter, Lisa Frederick and her husband, Bobby, of Houston, TX; two sons, Steve Noufer and his wife, Penny, of Maui, Hawaii and Glenn Noufer of Manitou Springs, CO; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Wermuth and her husband, Ash, Kevin Frederick, Bonnie Noufer, Annemarie Noufer, Nick Noufer, Dawn Noufer and Ryan Noufer; one niece, Nancy Iscuria and her husband, Steve and two nephews, Gary Englehart and Randy Englehart. A funeral service with Military Honors will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 18, 2015 in the Chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian. The family will receive friends at a reception in the lobby of the funeral home following the service. Private interment will be held at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
