Charles P. Stirewalt, Sr.
April 14, 1917 ~ October 28, 1999
Charles P. Stirewalt, Sr., 82, of 701 Parkway Vista Drive, died Thursday, October 28, 1999, at a local nursing home.
A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Clarence Chester and Fannie Ford Stirewalt. He was a Navy Veteran of WWII, retired from the NC Board of Education and from UNCA and did volunteer work at St. Joseph's Hospital. He resided in the Beech Community for 29 years.
He is survived by his wife, Cathy Gregg Stirewalt; four daughters, Brenda Stirewalt of Arden, Sherry Shufordand her husband Rick of Hickory, Charla Parks and her husband Paul of Lynchburg, VA, Shannon Jackson and her husband DJ of Asheville; two sons, Charles P. Stirewalt, Jr. of Arden and Shawn P. Stirewalt and his fiancee, Pam and her son, Steven of Asheville; a brother, Clarence Stirewalt of Augusta, GA; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10:00 am Monday at Beech Presbyterian Church, where he was a member, with the Reverend David Bierschwale officiating. Burial will be at Green Hills Cemetery with military graveside rites provided by the Buncombe County Veterans Council Volunteer Memorial Team.
His family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 pm Saturday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.
