Charles Ray Israel, 64, of 79 Kerr Road, died Saturday, October 8, 2011, at the John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center. Mr. Israel was born in Buncombe County and was the son of the late Charles F. Israel and Vernie Mason Banks. He served in the US Air Force for eight years. He is survived by his wife, Shirley King Israel; two daughters, Lisa Edwards and Teresa Hensley; three grandchildren, Ashley Hensley, Chris Hensley, and Alvin Edwards; and a sister, Betty Israel. A memorial service is scheduled for 6:00p.m. Tuesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronald McMahan officiating. Interment with military honors will be at a later date at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the Leicester VFD, PO Box 100, Leicester, NC 28748.

  6. Charles was such a gentleman and so laid back. So sorry for your loss and he was so very young! We graduated together in 1964. My sympathy to you at this very sad time.
