Clayton Ridings Emerick, 66, of Fairview, NC, passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at home after living with ALS for two and a half years. Born in Baltimore, MD to the late Raymond R. and Lola Ridings Emerick, he worked as a wholesale florist in the family business, Calvert Wholesale, in Baltimore, MD for twenty-seven years. In 2000 Clay retired, moved, and built a home in Fairview, NC. Clay worked hard and played harder. He lived life to the fullest and greatly valued time with friends and family. Clay was always active, whether playing basketball, golf, woodworking, skiing, or golfing In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Tyler Clayton Emerick. Survivors include his wife, Susan Helm Emerick; daughters, Stacey Emerick of Brevard and Sara (Colin) Emerick of Kingston, MA; granddaughter, Emma Lola Canham; brothers, Ray (Debbie) Emerick, Jr. of Rosedale, MD and Michael Emerick of Paros, Greece. He was loved by many nieces and nephews as well as childhood friends and became friends with everyone he met. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to ALS research.     We are so saddened to learn of Clay’s passing. Mike and I will miss him. Our hearts and prayers are with all of you.

  3. I was fortunate to know Clay for 8 years from the Country Club of Asheville. One of the nicest person’s you could meet. I got to see his woodworking shop. It was amazing.We would talk about cars and motorcycles all the time. He will surely be missed.
