Cleatus Davis Cogburn, 91, formerly of the Biltmore Estate, died Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at Pisgah Manor Nursing Home, Candler.
Mrs. Cogburn was born in Buncombe County and was a
daughter of the late Cleate and Ida Rhodes Davis. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Vernon George Cogburn (a 44-year employee of Biltmore Dairies) who died in 1981, and by a daughter, Ellen Gibson in 1996. She was a member
of Temple Baptist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Mildred Pruitt of Asheville and Betty Hunting of Charlotte; one
son, Vernon G. “Junior” Cogburn, Jr. of Arden; twelve grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Saturday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Randy Bray officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
Her family will receive friends from 6:30 - 8:30 pm Friday at the funeral home.

I am the daughter of Medford W. Cogburn, Vernon’s brother. I was very sorry to hear about Cleatus. I visited her at Pisgah View Manor, but do not think she knew who I was.
