Clifton Avery (C.A.) Mashburn, Jr., 74, of 741 Sand Hill Road, Asheville, died Monday, June 4, 2001, at the Hospice Solace Center.

Mr. Mashburn was born in Haywood County and was a son of the late Clifton A. and Joan Willie Burch Mashburn Sr. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Jerry Crawford, who died in 1989.

He was associated with IBM for 30 years as a business specialist and was a member of West Asheville Baptist Church where he served as church usher and literature coordinator.

He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Dr. Robert Garren of Asheville and by his brother and sister-in-law, Norman B. and Betty Mashburn of Hendersonville, and by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Thursday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. James H. Johnson and the Rev. Daniel Dockery officiating. Burial will be at Pisgah View Memorial Park.

His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and request that memorials be made to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813, or to West Asheville Baptist Church Building Fund, 926 Haywood Road, Asheville, NC 28806.

  4. I worked with Cliff at IBM for many years. He was a fine gentleman and we had a wonderful working relationship. He loved his family very much and spoke often of them especially his parents. He will be missed.
