Craig Wallace Duffney, 71, passed away Friday, August 4, 2023, at the Charles George VA Medical Center.

Mr. Duffney was born May 1, 1952, in St. Paul, MN to the late Wallace Roy and Lucille Nutz Duffney. He served our country as a Medical Corpsman in the US Navy from 1970- 1974. His career was a Life Assurance Underwriter with Munich-American National Reassurance Company.

Craig was a very caring and very giving gentleman who loved God and was a devoted, faithful and loving husband. Along with his wife, Jane, they served God by operating a homeless shelter in Chicago for several years. He volunteered at the Las Vegas VA Medical Center.

He and Jane moved to Asheville from Spokane, WA. He enjoyed cruising, loved Cairo, the service dog, and…. the color orange.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jane Cramoline Duffney; daughter, Christine Leonhardt (Ron); son, John Duffney (Christina); grandchildren, Mikael, Niklas, LeLand, Kayson, Skyla, and Zaleigha; two sisters, Kathleen Desrosiers and Joy Oswald (Tom), several nieces and nephews, and a special friend Carol Miner (and her recently deceased husband, Ralph).

Funeral services with military honors will be at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, September 7, at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.

  1. So sorry for your loss. You guys had quite a journey together, a roller coaster of highs and lows, but your devotion to and caring for one another throughout it all was admirable.

    • I’m so saddened by the loss of Craig, my big brother, a husband, a father, grandfather, Uncle and friend to so many. He has given us lots to remember, to laugh about and to be grateful for. He was a man of God and loved his family! He will be greatly missed and so blessed to have him! Love and prayers!
