Daniel Edward Briggs

Daniel Edward Briggs, 95, passed away at the home of his daughter Gloria, after a brief illness. He was surrounded by those who loved him. Daniel was a native of Burnsville, NC. In his early 20's, he enlisted in the US Army and served in World War II. He enjoyed the life and travel the army offered. While stationed in Sacramento, California, he met Anita at a USO social, and they were married a year later. After his discharge from the Army he and Anita settled in Arden NC. He began working at Youngblood Trucklines and retired in 1981 from ABF Trucklines. The family later moved to Fairview where he had a small farm. Gardening was his passion and he shared the bounty of his garden with the community. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon. He and Anita were frequent volunteers at ABCCM. He was predeceased by Anita, his wife of sixty seven years. He is survived by four daughters, Janette Neal and her fiancé, John Potts of Lexington, NC, Levonia Kennedy and her husband Richard of Navarre, FI, Gloria Briggs of Jonesborough, TN and Danette Epley and her husband Tim of Hendersonville, NC. He is also survived by nine grandsons and eighteen great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life service will be held Monday, May 6th at 12:00 Noon, in the chapel of Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC with the Reverend Michael lssacs officiating. After the service the family will receive friends and family at Westminster Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall, 15 Overbrook Place, in Asheville for a time of sharing of memories. A lunch will be served. Flowers are welcome and appreciated, but memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church c/o Veterans Fund, 15 Overbrook Place, Asheville, NC 28805.
