David Eugene Livingston (Smiley) passed away after a long illness on June 21, 2023 at the age of 80.
He was a lifelong resident of Henderson County and was the son of the late Don Livingston (Poppy) and Marjorie S. Livingston. David was a graduate of Fletcher High School (1960) and was an active member of Fletcher First Baptist Church Men’s Sunday School Class. He was a retired employee of Asheville Flying Service and Steelcase, Inc.
David was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Betty Cunningham Livingston and one brother, Jerry Livingston. He is survived by daughter, Karen Gray (her husband John) of Rutherfordton; daughter Carolyn Hyatt (her husband Keary) of Fletcher; three grandchildren, Kaileigh Byrd (her husband Jacob), Lauren Gray and Natalie Hyatt; sister, Millie Stepp of Fletcher; sister-in-law, Jackie Livingston of Fletcher and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
David was a loving husband, father, papa, brother, uncle and friend to all. He bestowed his smile on everyone he met. He blessed and filled many hearts with love for Christ and lived a Christian life that others could follow. He will be greatly missed by the people whose lives he touched.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, June 25 at Fletcher First Baptist Church with burial to follow at Shepherd Memorial Park. Reverend Roy Waldroup, Reverend David Gentry and Minister Jennifer Wilder will officiate. His family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Saturday evening at Fletcher First Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Fletcher First Baptist Church’s Awana Program.
Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.

Carolyn, Sorry for your loss. I always remembered him at the craft sales with a big smile on his face. We will keep you and your family in our prayers.

Sure was sorry to hear of David’s passing. He is free of all pain. We sure will miss his smile waiting in the back of the church to talk and us tell about each of our new pains we had. He sure was a good man. We loved him. Our prayers are with you.
