David Lee Blazer, 74, died Friday, September 28, 2007, after a courageous battle with cancer.
A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was the son of Ruth Queen Blazer and the late Grover C. Blazer. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Shirley Cole Blazer and a brother, Paul C. Blazer.
Mr. Blazer was employed by American Enka/BASF until his retirement. He was a member of Pole Creek Baptist Church where he taught a men’s Sunday school class. He was an Army veteran and served in Korea during the conflict.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a son Mark and his wife, Laura and granddaughter, Megan Leigh of Weaverville; brothers Bobby and wife Mary of San Antonio, TX and Jack and wife Joyce of Candler; sisters Nell Metcalf and husband Bernard of Woodfin, Penny Best and husband, Jerry, of Canton, and Jenny Penley and husband, Jack, of Asheville. Also, a very special niece Tammy Reeves and husband, Tim, and their son Carson, mother-in-law Ruby Harris Cole and sister-in-law Jean Robbins and husband, Stan, all of Candler; and brother-in-law Buck and his friend, Joyce Putney of Augusta, GA; special friend of the family Virgie Freeman and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins and special friends.
The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Danny Gasperson presiding and special friend Jim Whitted assisting. Burial will be at Snow Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Tim Reeves, Chris McCoy, Stan Robbins, Roger Raby, Donald Raby and Jack Penley. The Adult Men’s Sunday School Class of Pole Creek Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6:00- 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and at other times will be at the home.
