David Presnell

David Presnell, age 79, died at Mission Hospital on Sunday, September 25, 2011, after a long struggle with heart disease. He was born May 30, 1932 in Garden City, Michigan to Hettie Standifer Presnell and Manasia Presnell. He was predeceased by his parents and brothers Mike and Jim. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Maryann, his sister Loree Goodwin of Asheville and his brother Tom of Westland, MI. David graduated from the University of Michigan School of Business in 1954 and was drafted into the US Army shortly after graduation. He served at Far East Headquarters in Camp Zama, Japan for two years. Twenty-seven years of his career was as a custom home builder in The Woodlands, TX. He and Maryann worked together in their business and enjoyed seeing a piece of earth become a home for a family. They were both active in the Greater Houston Home Builder's Association and the National Association of Home Builders. David was named Builder of the Year in 1993 by the Greater Houston Assn and was it's president in 1995. He and Maryann had the honor of building the New American Home in The Woodlands for the NAHB Convention in 1997. They retired to WNC permanently in 2002. His funeral service will be on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 3:00 p.m. at The Church of The Redeemer, 1201 Riverside Drive, with the Rev. Alex H. Hanks officiating. The family will receive friends in the Parish Hall following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Church of The Redeemer, or to Meals on Wheels, 146 Victoria Rd., Asheville, NC 28801.

  2. Maryann, We are so sorry to hear of your loss. Jerry worked for the two of you when you lived in Spruce Pine. He thought that the two of you were wonderful people and missed you both greatly when you moved to Asheville. Please accept our words of comfort to you in your time of sorrow. David was a wonderful man and will be greatly missed. We will be keeping you in our prayers and God will be keeping you in his loving arms through this difficult time.

  8. Maryann, my sincere sympathy to you and the family. I remember Dave as very special in our youth group at First Baptist Church in Garden City, MI. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him through the years.
