Della Faye (Mamaw Faye) Cowan Rider, 78, of Fletcher, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2022.

She joyfully lived her life in Jacksonville, NC and Western North Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Lewis Cowan and Helen Merritt Cowan. Faye was also preceded in death by her husband, Houston Rider; one son, Dean Rider; and four siblings, Frank Cowan, Marie Scott, Lewis Washington Cowan Jr. and Arnold Cowan.

Mamaw Faye was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was a loyal and faithful caregiver. Her absolute joy was to serve others and her church family. She loved singing in the choir and made sure that her position taking care of the church was done with excellence. She was a true Prayer Warrior and encourager. Faye had a gift with words penning many of the cards and letters sent out by the church. What a joy to receive words of comfort and encouragement from her.

She is survived by four daughters, Theresa Rider, Kathy Rider, Tammy Harris (her husband Stacey) and Elizabeth Sloop (her husband Brian); grandchildren, Dean Garey, Blake Cox, Amber Wood, Samuel Wood, Hunter Rider, Rachel Kelly and Rylie Harris; and great-grandchildren, Breonna Garey, Mason Garey, Adryanne Redfern and Lexi Ramsey.

A Funeral Service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 19 at Trinity of Fairview Church with burial to follow at Shepherd Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM.

  9. Wow–what a shock! I just found out about Faye’s passing, today. She loved Jesus and was always a bright light of sunshine. I met Faye in a Christian Writing Group and Faye actually has a story published in a book by the group; the name of the books is titled: “Life’s Little Hiccups.” Faye shared how her faith helped her through the difficult times. Faye, you will be/are missed!
