Don Jefferson Meadows, 86, died Sunday, February 28, 2016, at his home.
A native of Buncombe County, he was the son of the late Floyd Samuel and Florence Hawks Meadows, and was also preceded in death by his wife, Nelia Elizabeth Webb Meadows, a grandson, Joshua Webb Cook, and by brothers and sisters, Wade Meadows, Juanita Sharpe, Wayne Meadows and Katherine Meadows.
Mr. Meadows was a dairy farmer and had also served as warehouse manager for Mars/White Knight. He was a member of Bell United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his daughters, Penny Lewis (Tony) and Melodie Meadows (Ralph Redpath); sons, Gary Meadows (Donna), Sammy Meadows (Becky) and Jeff Meadows (Lisa); grandchildren, Mark Meadows, Kellie Spinks, David Meadows, Bryan Cook, Corey Shelton, Tommy Meadows, Colin Redpath, Brandon Meadows, Loren Jones and Tara Redpath; 10 great-grandchildren (and one on-the-way); a special nephew and his wife, Wade Jr. and Margaret Meadows; and brothers and sisters, Harold Meadows, Kyle Meadows, Owen Meadows, Floyd Meadows, Betty Sharpe and Carolyn Ratcliff.
Don was a kind and loving father, grandfather and husband, who dearly loved the Lord. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and working in his little building. He built doghouses for years and sold them to several farm and garden supply businesses in the local area. Even in the past years he has had customers come back to buy another from him. He had so wanted to build them again.
Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Charles Phillips and the Rev. Dr. Keith Hutchinson at 3:00 p.m. Saturday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Bell United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be Steve Clodfelter, Mike Meadows, Jim Webb and Bud Webb.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:30 - 3:00 p.m. Saturday.
The family expresses their appreciation to his primary caregiver and friend, Judy Lunsford, as well as other special caregivers, Ashley Greene and Chandra Mills.
Flowers will be appreciated or memorials may be made to the Buncombe County Schools Foundation (earmarked for the Joshua Webb Cook Memorial Scholarship), 175 Bingham Road, Asheville, NC 28806.
