The Reverend Donald E. Gasperson, 81, of 95 Brown's View Church Road, Candler, died Saturday, May 16, 2009, at his home with his family by his side. Rev. Gasperson was a native of Buncombe County and was a son of the late Robert and Eva Lance Gasperson. He was a graduate of Fruitland Bible College and was a bi-vocational minister who worked as a research machinist with American Enka while serving as pastor at several Baptist churches in Madison and Buncombe County, including Mt. Zion, Beaverdam, Bethel and Inanda. In addition, he had a special interest and involvement with missions. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Cindy Warren Gasperson; two daughters, Angela Ball and her husband, Keith, of Candler and Donna Greenleaf and her husband, Lee, of Waynesville; one son, Andy Gasperson and his wife, Marilyn, of Brevard; a foster daughter, Linda Brooks and her husband, Steve, of Hayesville; fourteen grandchildren, Brian, Cameron, Matthew, Chris, Jonathan, Sammy, Holly, Lee, Kory, Olin, Dylan, Kammie, Dani Lou and Erin; thirteen great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Frances King, Alice Whiteside, and Gladys Rogers. The funeral service will be at 12:00 noon Tuesday at Brown's View United Methodist Church with the Revs. Ed Worley, Enoch Ball, Jr., and Kenneth Ingle officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service and suggest that memorials be made to CarePartners Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.

  1. Cindy, Donna, Angela, Andy and Family You have our deepest Sympathy. We have many fond memories of Pastor Don 1971-1975 during which our church had a great youth choir, purchased a Bus, built a choir loft, a new piano was purchased, choir pews were purchased and had 141 enrolled in Sunday school attendance, 1973. Those were the good ole days. Cindy, what a special Preachers wife you have always been. God Bless you all

    We want you to know you are in our thoughts and prayers. Don was such a great man and great pastor. We have many dear memories of him and your family as we grew up at Mt Zion. Daddy, Mama, Mike, Robin and I were so blessed to have had Don, Cindy and your family in our lives. I can imagine what a reunion in heaven there is!

  5. Don was my best friend though I had not seen him or his family for many years. We attended Fruitland Institute together and shared many of life’s ups and downs. He was always there when I needed him and vice versa. I am recovering from surgery and cannot attend the funeral and that breaks my heart. All my love to Cindy and the children. We will see Don again and what a reunion that will be. Charles Crisp

    My prayers are with you all during this time of loss. Rev. Gasperson was such a blessing to me as I grew up attending Bethel Baptist Church. I heard of Rev. Gaspersons passing the night prior to the services and was unable to attend. We will continue to pray for you in the weeks to come. May God’s comfort and peace be yours during this time of loss.

  13. Don was a special man and helped me in so many ways. He was always there when I needed him. Our friendship goes back to 1958….when I was at the Beaverdam Baptist Church. God bless his family. We will see and be with him again.
