Donald William Haney, 78, of Asheville, passed away at his home on Friday, May 23, 2014.
He was born on May 18, 1936, in Buncombe Co., a son of the late Charlie and Pearl Buckner Haney. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Lova Sluder, Ruth Adamski, and brothers, Denver, Jack, and Conley Haney.
Mr. Haney was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife Shirley Anders Haney; son, Jeffrey Haney (Yvette), of Leicester; daughter, Pamela Haney McKinney (Jeff), of Asheville; grandchildren, Cristy Haney Brunner (Peter), Sam Haney, Mallory Haney Hall (Phil), Brooke McKinney, and Miranda McKinney Stewart (Zack); great-grandchildren, Oliver, Evana, Jett, and Stella; sisters, Helen Rogers and Wilma Taylor, of Asheville; and brothers, Earl Haney (Henrietta) of Weaverville, and Everette Haney (Nell), of Asheville.
A funeral service for Mr. Haney will be on Sunday at 5:00 p.m. at the Groce Funeral Home chapel on Patton Ave. with the Rev. Keith Watkins officiating. Military honors will be performed by the North Carolina National Guard Honor Guard. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
