Donald Ray Henson, 78, of Candler, died Friday, January 29, 2010, at the John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center. A native of Buncombe Co., Mr. Henson was a son of the late Hoyle G. and Katie Warren Henson and was also preceded in death by brothers, Rex and Billie Henson. Mr. Henson was a retired tree trimmer with the Davey Tree Co. in Michigan and retired from CP&L in Asheville. Mr. Henson is survived by his sisters, Wanda Levy and her husband, Joseph, and Vondell Rhodes and her husband, Paul, of Asheville, Euna Herb of Candler, Judy Pepper and her husband, David, of Lake James, Nona Anderson of Candler, and June Taylor, of Greenville, SC; a brother, Larry Henson of Candler; and special friends, Virgil Warren and David Hicks. A funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at Brown�s View United Methodist Church with the Rev. George Davis officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to CarePartners Hospice John F. Keever Solace Center, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.

    Sorry to here about Donald’s passing.He used to come to the house with Virgil and we would set on my porch and tell tails about back in the Day.Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

  8. DON WAS MY 1ST DAD, AND WAS A VERY GOOD AND HONEST PERSON AND A HARD WORKING MAN. DON HELPED ME BUILD MY 1ST TREE HOUSE,DON TOOK ME FISHING,HE GAVE ME MY 1ST DOG ‘SNOPPIER’.THERES A LOT OF THINGS DON AND I DONE AND DID . BUT THE ONE THING HE ALWAYS TRYED TO MAKE SURE OF WAS THAT EVERY BODY ELSE AROUND HIM WAS TOOK CARE OF AND HAPPY. I KNOW ! DON WENT TO SEE HIS MOTHER KITIE EVERY SUNDAY WHEN SHE WAS ALIVE , JUST TO TALK AND VISIT,WHILE I RODE MY BICYCLE AROUND BEAVER DAMM LOOP.I’M REALY LUCKY TO HAVE BEEN RAISED BY DON AND TO HAVE KNOWN DON . BUT I KNOW HE IS IN A BETTER PLACE THAT AWAITS US ALL. DON IS IN HEVEN NOW LOOKING DOWN AND AT REST. I’M REALLY GOING TO MISS DON HENSON MY 1ST REAL DAD! CHRIS ALLEN

    Don was a great neighbor and a great friend who will be missed by so many people. I already miss him and I really miss talking to him each day on the phone and us visting each other. Don loved his family,friends and his dogs. My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time.
